Paper 1 - ANALYSING ONE EXTRACT
Explorations in Creative Reading and Writing (8700/1)
Section A
  • 4 questions (list, how does the writer use language, how does the writer use structure and evaluate)
  • Do not look at language devices in question 1.
  • You MUST analyse at language devices in questions 2 and 4. USE PETAL.
  • You MUST analyse at structural devices in question 3. Do NOT look at language devices. USE BME (beginning, middle, end) and SFZ (shift, focus, zoom).
Paper 1 Section B
  • Narrative/descriptive creative writing
  • Language devices, punctuation, varying sentence length, structural features and wow words are of vital importance in this question. This matter much more than the story that you come up with.
  • Revise the 6 paragraph plan and language devices. Practise makes perfect!

AQA English Literature: What do I need to revise?

Paper 1: Shakespeare and the 19th-century novel

  • 64 marks

  • 40% of GCSE

Questions

Section A: Shakespeare: you will answer one question on 'Romeo and Juliet'. You will be required to write in detail about an extract from the play and then to write about the play as a whole.

Section B: The 19th-century novel: students will answer one question on 'A Christmas Carol'. You will be required to write in detail about an extract from the novel and then to write about the novel as a whole.

 

Paper 2: Modern texts and poetry

  • 96 marks

  • 60% of GCSE

Questions

Section A Modern texts: you will answer one essay question from a choice of two on 'An Inspector Calls'. YOU WILL NEED TO WRITE PETAL PARAGRAPHS.

Section B Poetry: you will answer one comparative question on one named poem printed on the paper and one other poem from the Love and Relationships poetry cluster. YOU WILL NEED TO WRITE BOLT BOLT PARAGRAPHS.

Section C Unseen poetry: you will answer one question on one unseen poem and one question comparing this poem with a second unseen poem. YOU WILL NEED TO WRITE PETAL PARAGRAPHS FOR THE QUESTION ABOUT ONE POEM AND BOLT BOLT PARAGRAPHS ABOUT TWO POEMS.
